Her passion for writing began as early as 5th Grade, where she enjoyed writing essays and doing term papers for school projects. On her free time, she would read books from Sweet Valley High Series, to Nancy Drew, Thriller novels and History books on the World War.
Her late grandfather’s interest in watching the news, and then popular news documentaries Probe and The Inside Story inspired her to take up Journalism.
She finished elementary and high school in St. Theresa’s College, QC.
In 2004, she graduated with a degree in AB Journalism, Cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas.
Her media career began as TV Field Reporter for RPN9 from 2004 to 2007. She was awarded as the Best TV Field Reporter by the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in 2005.
Lia now works as TV Field Reporter for GMA7 and happily married to her equally devoted education advocate husband, Eder del Castillo.
Lia’s passion for education is driven by her innate love for learning.
By giving away dictionaries and storybooks, one day she dreams of seeing Filipino kids able to read and write, and succeeding on their own.
